About the region
Cerrado de Minas holds the distinction of being Brazil’s inaugural coffee-producing region to earn the coveted Designation of Origin (Cerrado Mineiro) status, a recognition akin to prestigious wine-producing areas. Spanning a vast expanse, it encompasses 55 municipalities nestled between the Alto Paranaiba, Triangulo Mineiro, and the Northwestern reaches of Minas Gerais. The region’s coffee farms range from medium-sized plots, spanning 2-300 hectares, to sprawling estates.
Characterized by elevations ranging from 800 to 1,300 meters and marked by well-defined seasons, including a humid summer and a mild to dry winter, Cerrado de Minas provides an ideal setting for the cultivation of specialty coffees. Within this region, you’ll encounter coffee varietals such as Mundo Novo and Catuaí. Cerrado de Minas coffees are notable for their heightened acidity, medium body, and inherent sweetness.
