Custom Blends & Cupping

Creating Something Unique

At OCT, we can assist in creating blends by offering a wide range of coffees from diverse origins and regions. Our expertise in coffee profiles and flavour characteristics enables us to recommend suitable combinations for your desired blend within your budget. We will facilitate the sample testing, cupping sessions, and quality assessments to ensure the blend meets your target specifications.

Coffee Education

We are always thrilled to organize a cupping session for you and your team, given prior notice. This session serves as an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the coffees you currently use and explore new varieties. Please notify us, and we will coordinate a visit for your team to our SCAA lab located in Arndell Park. Additionally, if it's more convenient for you, the cupping session can be arranged at your preferred location.

Understanding Cupping

Cupping, which involves assessing the aroma, flavour, acidity, body, and aftertaste of freshly brewed coffees, offers a comprehensive evaluation of coffee quality and its unique characteristics. This practice enables the identification of distinctive flavour profiles, origin-specific nuances, and potential defects. Cupping sessions not only enhance understanding and appreciation of various coffees but also play a vital role in blend creation, informed sourcing decisions, and maintaining quality control. Familiarity with cupping is, therefore, an essential skill for any roaster striving to uphold coffee quality standards.

Sample Roasting

In the practice of cupping, a preference is often given to light roasts because they serve to highlight the intrinsic flavours and unique characteristics of coffee beans. Light roasting methods preserve the natural qualities of the beans, allowing cuppers to discern subtle nuances and distinct profiles originating from various sources. These roasts, by retaining acidity, floral or fruity notes, and sweetness, unveil the coffee's inherent complexity. As a result, light roasts play a crucial role in facilitating the identification of specific flavour attributes and potential defects. In essence, opting for a light roast enhances the cupping experience by providing a transparent and unaltered representation of each coffee's true essence. This, in turn, empowers you to make informed choices and gain a deeper appreciation for the diverse flavours that different beans have to offer.
